Hybrid work has many benefits, but sustainability is one that has come into focus for me recently. Sustainability plays a key role in current ESG (environmental, social, & governance) and CSR (corporate social responsibility) conversations, and it’s clear that hybrid work is inextricably linked to these topics as well. A flexible, hybrid work model can make companies more environmentally sustainable by reducing emissions through decreased business travel and fewer commutes to the office, for example.

However, sustainability extends beyond making a positive environmental impact—though that is certainly critical. Businesses must also consider whether they are conducting business in a way that is healthy and sustainable for their employees. Are they providing a good work-life balance? Are they creating a positive, inclusive culture that retains talent?

With the global pandemic and the Great Resignation that we’re seeing in companies across the United States, where employees have been leaving their jobs in search of more flexible hours and better work-life balance, the case for companies to transition to hybrid work models is stronger than ever.
