Delivering A Webex Teams Application for Everyone

The Webex Teams client has evolved so much in the past 12 months. We’ve added lots of exciting features such as Call Manager Calling, Threading, Edit Message and GIPHY support. But one area which has been a central focus for the product team has been getting our Webex Team portfolio suite to level of accessibility compliance. We wanted to ensure that every user of our application can have a great experience.

With this goal in mind, we’ve introduced Screen Reader, Keyboard navigation support and new shortcut keys which allows all users to get work done quicker. And we’ve also made some adjustments to our default colour theme along with providing High Contrast and Dark Mode themes to improve the visual contrast for users with a visual impairment.

With all this effort we’re delighted to be able to say that our Desktop clients now meet WCAG 2.0 Compliance with some exceptions. Our mobile and web applications will shortly also be at this level of accessibility, thus empowering all users to use our Webex Teams application portfolio.

Inclusive Design

Everybody should be provided the means to use and enjoy the Webex Teams experience. And the improvements brought about with accessibility benefits all our users. We’ve already made changes to our designs to make the experience in our apps more intuitive and who doesn’t like a shortcut key to get work done quicker.

We continue to enhance, improve and prioritise Accessibility in our application as we lead with an Inclusive Design way of thinking which considers the abilities of all our users. This approaches will consider the diverse range of human abilities as they use the Webex Teams applications. This Inclusive Design ethos is intrinsically built into new feature development before new functionality appears on your desktop, on your mobile or on the Web client. As we take into context how our individual users use our applications on a personal basis, we know this renewed focus will improve every users’ experience of Webex Teams.

Spectrum & Webex Teams

We were delighted to have an opportunity to work collaboratively on a case study with Spectrum one of the largest cable providers in the United States. Spectrum’s internal approach was to ensure that their entire workforce was able to use their internal tools, including Webex Teams by focusing on accessibility for all employees.
