From Home, to Office, and On the Go – Webex and Google Improve Collaboration for Everyone

On By Amit Barave3 Min Read

Webex by Cisco has a long-standing technology innovation partnership with Google to improve hybrid work—across software and devices alike. Whether using Webex when working from home, school, or on the go, Webex and Google make it easier than ever to enjoy frictionless collaboration.

Today at Google I/O, we are excited to share two new innovations between Webex and Google technologies.

First, Webex will be supported on Android Auto™, in over 500 models. This integration will provide users access to familiar meeting and calling controls to safely collaborate while on the road.

Additionally, a new Webex Progressive Web App (PWA) for ChromeOS will support combined meetings and messaging capabilities. This new unified PWA provides a faster and more seamless way to connect through meetings and messaging in a single web-based application that can be installed and surfaced as a standalone app.

On the go with Webex and Android Auto

The ability to safely take meetings and calls while driving is an important convenience for many people around the world. To help prioritize safe and secure in-car collaboration, Webex is launching on Android Auto, bringing familiar meeting and calling controls for when you have to join a meeting from the road.

To help drivers stay focused on the road, meetings use audio-only experiences to minimize distraction and provide a view of upcoming meetings, recent calls, and easy access to Webex contacts.

Webex’s best-in-class audio intelligence enhances the experience for the driver and any passenger in the vehicle. Eliminating background noise from non-meeting participants in the car and noise outside the vehicle, and optimizing the speaker’s voice, makes it easier to be heard – whether it’s construction, or children chatting in the backseat.

Faster Collaboration with Webex and Google Chromebooks

Sometimes work needs to happen at the speed of light, and now Webex on ChromeOS devices can too.

On-the-go collaboration is easy with the Webex PWA, built for the highly mobile design of ChromeOS devices for home and work. With the new addition of Webex Messaging, paired with Meetings, users have a new way to connect even faster in the unified web-based app experience. The Webex PWA is Chrome Enterprise Recommended, which is a program created by Google, to help enterprises find solutions to make working on the web and in the cloud even better.

The Webex PWA can be installed from the Webex website, then pinned to the shelf for easy access, making it simple and intuitive for users to message and meet with others. And since progressive web applications are optimized for speed, updated automatically, and take up much less space on devices – they are an ideal option for work.

Webex PWA is available now, and the new Webex experience will be coming to Android Auto later this year.
