The Cisco Video Phone 8875 wins an iF Design Award 2023
Design is a lot of things. Sure, it’s creative, and it’s often visual. We can get a visceral reaction to design— it feels close to art. We can have favorite designers like we have favorite sculptors and musicians. Design is also powerfully influential— it can shape how we live, the quality of our lives, how we use resources and how we impact the environment. And so, a design award is never just a design award. Especially at Cisco.
I could not be more proud to share that the Cisco Video Phone 8875, which brings the benefits of hybrid work to every desk, has won an iF Design Award 2023. One of the world’s most prestigious product design competitions, the iF Design Awards are in their seventieth year. It’s a big win.
If you’re not familiar, the Video Phone 8875 is designed as an all-in-one desktop collaboration device. Equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen to provide fast, simple meeting and call interaction along with an adjustable camera, users can sit or stand to collaborate on video. The physical camera shutter & live background replacement provide enhanced privacy, and a powerful speaker and deep integrations with Cisco headsets provide hands-free audio.
Ultimately, Cisco’s goal was to provide rich capabilities in an affordable and compact form factor. And, providing a sustainable device was crucial— driving the development of minimized and fully recyclable packaging. Additionally, Cisco offers a program to take back devices after their useful life for recycling.
Product design and creation is a team sport. Great products don’t pop out of the design department ready to take on the world, they develop over time and across functions. Designers do their part, to be sure— using their logic and imagination to solve big problems in original, pleasing ways; juggling everything from manufacturability to sustainability to aesthetics, and partnering to define products that satisfy the business needs in a way that satisfies human needs. Great products not only address their functional challenges, they make you feel something positive. Cross-functional collaboration makes great products possible— with engineering, supply chain, product management, and partners of all kinds. And that’s what wins design awards.
