How often during the past 12 months have you started a conference call from your car and finished it at your desk? If the answer is more than once, you know that experience can be cumbersome. Between dialing in, sharing content and taking notes, the switch between outside and inside was anything but seamless.
I said “was” because Samsung and Cisco Webex are working to take that meeting experience to a whole new level. The future of meetings is mobile and both companies are partnering to make the switch between those environments easier than ever.
“Hey, Bixby”
Let’s start with joining a video conference from your car: taking your attention from traffic to your mobile phone to find your app and join a meeting can be dangerous. That’s why we’ve integrated Webex Meetings with a number of virtual assistants, and soon, we will support Samsung’s virtual assistant, Bixby. The experience of joining the meeting is as easy as saying, “Hey, Bixby, start my personal room.” Et voilà, Webex Meetings starts and joins your meeting room automatically.
Seamless integration from mobile to desktop
When it comes to switching from a mobile to a desktop, the latest Samsung mobile phones come with an embedded technology called Samsung DeX. Take a cable and connect your phone to a screen and this is the type of desktop experience that will appear.
DeX is not a different operating system; it’s just a different Android experience, optimized for desktop use. As people rely more and more on their smartphones for their primary compute power, this integration with DeX will be increasingly critical for highly mobile customers.
What did Cisco and Samsung do to improve switching from “on-the-go” to “at-the-desk”? We worked on tighter integrations: when you are on a Webex meeting on your mobile phone and need to switch to DeX, the meeting continues seamlessly. You can then share your DeX screen as easily as on a regular desktop. Samsung and Cisco can now help you be more productive, wherever you are.
Samsung Developer Conference
We previewed these innovations this week at the Samsung Developer Conference in San Jose, and the features will be available in Webex Meetings over the next several months. Edward Choi, VP of Alliances at Samsung and Matt MacPherson, Cisco CTO of Wireless, demonstrated these integrations in a Webex meeting with Amy Chang, Cisco’s EVP and GM of Collaboration.
Making life easier in the enterprise is the reason people at Samsung and Cisco innovate every day. We will continue to work hand in hand to bring these innovations in collaboration, networking and security in the future.
